What is Volunteer's Week?
Volunteer's Week is an annual event celebrated in the United Kingdom to recognise and appreciate the contributions of volunteers across the country. It takes place in the first week of June.
Volunteer’s Week is all about celebrating the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities.
According to the UK Civil Society Almanac 2020, around 38% of the UK population volunteered formally at least once a year. This equates to an estimated 20 million people volunteering their time and skills for various causes.
Why volunteer?
Every volunteering experience is difference and what you get from it will be unique to you. But some of the benefits to volunteering can be:
- Making a positive difference to people’s lives
- Improving your self-esteem, confidence and wellbeing
- Gaining work experience and training opportunities
- Meeting new people and being part of a team
- Upskilling and using your existing skills.
