Christmas can be a really exciting and festive time for some, for others it’s a difficult period.

Whether you’re remaining on site and having a celebration with friends or returning home to see your loved ones, here’s some tips for looking after your mental health this Christmas.

Keep in touch with friends and family

It can be really easy to forget to link in with loved ones when you start University. Time just slips away, and the weeks fly by. Christmas is a time where you can reconnect with people, for your own mental health but also to check in on them and make sure they’re doing ok too. Make sure you talk to them about how you’re feeling, you might find that others can relate.

Get regular fresh air

Trying to get ahead of that January deadline, or just using the time to finish that tub of Quality Street? Either way, remember to get lots of fresh air and try to go for regular walks. Staying active can really help clear your mind, plus it’s a great opportunity to better explore the local area if you’re staying on site.

Remember to eat properly and drink sensibly

It can be really easy to want to eat all the chocolate and Christmas cake but remember to take care of your health and eat properly and drink in moderation. You’ll feel better for it in the long run – (less hangovers!)

Take advantage of local support

The Universities offer a range of services over the Christmas period. We’ve included some links below for both Sheffield Hallam and The University of Nottingham. But if you see any of our teams around campus and need to talk, then don’t be shy. Our teams are happy to help you with anything and will always say good morning!
