We love opening our doors on an open day, there’s always a buzz in the air about new beginnings and the exciting adventures ahead.

It can be overwhelming when visiting an open day, especially when you’re viewing lots of different accommodations and trying to decide which would be the best fit for you.

Here we’ve listed a few things to keep in mind when visiting an open day and what questions to ask to help you make your decision.

What are the prices for the year of study you’ll be attending?

It’s important to remember that prices are set at certain times of year for the following academic year, so if you’re an early bird looking ahead, then you might not be able to find out the correct prices straight away. You can however find out a rough date as to when prices will be released and can then use the current prices to work out some basic calculations as to what rent you could easily afford.

What bed size will you get and are there options?

There are different room types and bed sizes, so it’s important that you understand what your options are and that you know the differences between them. An open day is the perfect time to see the rooms in person and then you can make a better-informed decision.

Who will you be living with?

You won’t be able to find out who you’re living with before moving in, however if you have any specific requests – such as wanting to live with other people on your course or people of a particular gender – then this is when you can ask more questions about what requests you’ll be able to make and how you can do this during the application process.

What facilities are on site and where are they?

The open day is a great opportunity for you to see not only the rooms, but also the additional facilities such as any laundry or common rooms and how these facilities work.

What events and activities are typically put on throughout the year on site?

Activities and events will be held throughout the year, so the teams will be able to talk you through some examples of recent events they’ve held and how you can keep informed on what’s going on via social media channels.

How close are the shops, transportation links, etc.?

It’s important to know what shops and other necessities are around the area and where the local transport links are. You can then take a walk around and see how you feel about the local area.

Is there an existing student you can ask questions to?

There might be current students who are helping out on the open day who you’ll be able to ask questions to. They’ll have real life experience of being a student staying at the accommodation and will also be able to answer more specific questions about student life in that particular city.

For both of our accommodations, you’ll find answers to some questions on our Staying with us page or on our individual site pages, but some of these questions will be relevant to the open day itself.

If you’d like to ask any questions before or after you visit, then please contact the relevant site directly and our teams will be happy to help.
